I just drove in to work and saw the crappiest of crappy cars, the Ford Rustang (95 model).  The wheels were caved in and bodywork protruded about 7" on each side--in stock form.  Fantastic.

1. Ford is just too cheap to put wide wheels on the Mustang. If they did, the added grip would turn people off because they would realize how bad the suspension was. If Ford updated the suspension, then its engine doesnt feel as powerful. So they just cheaped out. I of course dont know any of this, i just hate Ford

2. it was probably a V6 car, they came with smaller wheels and they probably didn't use a lower offset so they can keep the same suspension gemoetry. the cobras and whatnot have much wider wheels with lower offset that line up pretty well.

the manufacturer that should be embarrassed is nissan. the stock wheel on every trimline of the 240sx are caved in really bad. i have wheels from a skyline gtr on my car (s14). the GTR is a widebody sports car and the wheels still fit on my non widebody coupe. no rubbing anywhere.
