The track - Buttonwillow Raceway #13CCW (sorta...). The driver - John Heinricy, GM Performance Division and multiple SCCA national champion. The car - the 2008 turbocharged Chevy Cobalt SS.

This is an in-car lap of Heinricy driving the new Chevy Cobalt SS (w/factory optional LSD) around BW during the press intro event. This is a closed off, private event at a sanctioned racetrack, don't try this at home!

To all SoCal natives, you will notice that there is a chicane right before Lost Hill and many other cones sitting on the course in places they would not normally be placed. This was purposely setup to keep the speeds lower on course and keep the day safer for all the journalists driving on that day. Although Heinricy is cleared to drive through the full course and take the front straight, journalists were required to enter the hot pits (where a speed limit was enforced), instead of taking the front straight for another lap. 3. I traditionally hate most Chevrolet cars, but I'm beginning to rethink it. This video was impressive, especially the way the car was able to slice through the cones. It looks like a sloppy comfortable ride, and aftermarket suspension could fix that. The ecotec is a proven engine, its about ffing time Chevy turbo's it.
My question is this... the Cobalt SS is only going to sell to an informed group of people, and most of those people would prefer either RWD or AWD. And a lot of people with too much money.
Chevy, Mazda, Dodge, Scion, Ford just build a small hardtop RWD car. The aftermarket will do the rest for you. Its really not that hard.

4. Not only would this be exclusive to the inform but also to the unbiased. I already know tons of people who would buy slower, more expensive cars because this is a Chevy.

5. chevy has paved the road for performance since 1955. I think they just need a little time to improve in the sports comact area

6. I'm genuinely impressed, and admittedly quite happy to be. I loved the SC'd Cobalt, and was therefore a bit miffed to see it go (I'm a sucker for a supercharged four), but I can't argue after seeing that! I've had my eye on a WRX for years, but the price and competency of this car right here may just sway me. Anyway, it's got to be better than my self-destructing Shelby Z =)
