free headsets are now the law

I get this email in my box today. It's for free headsets if you get a ticket. Talking on a cell phone is already illegal in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, the District of Columbia and California (as of July 1, 2008). Washington is due this year as well. If you drive a modified car, you could use as many reasons as possible for the police to not pull you over.

Avoiding being busted for talking on the phone for driving is just one more reason. The options are buy a nice car that has in-car bluetooth connectivity built-in (not likely if you read Sport Compact Car), buy a bluetooth headset or buy a wired headset. Headsets.com has come up with a plan to give you a free headset if you show them proof that you got a ticket for driving while on the phone. It doesn't say what kind of headset you'll get, and we're sure they'll be selling off your contact info to junk mailers, but call 1-800-HEADSETS or visit www.headsets.com/drivers if you want to check it out.
