One of the more surprising news bits from the enthusiast auto industry popped up sometime last week. GReddy's Japanese parent company, Trust Co. Ltd., filed for MINJI-SAISEI-HO, the equivalent of Chapter 11 protection in the US. This restructering is surprising given GReddy's US strength, with 2 offices in the US. But I think many of us have forgotten that GReddy is a corporation itself and operates autonomously to an extent.
The Japanese tuner market has also been in a hurt for years, with the younger generations more interested in cellphones and MTV than hopping up a Silvia or Civic. Haven't you noticed how every OEM is trying to go upmarket with the WRX, Evo, and GT-R? Still, GReddy assures us that the US market has been strong (go American tuning!) and that they are not affected by this problem. So go out there and show your support, don't buy the knock-offs, buy the real parts with quality and R&D behind them! Otherwise, you'll be seeing more of this in the news.
